Pricing/Ordering

How much do your rugs cost?

Much depends on the quality of the carpet selected and the complexity of the proposed design.

Range: From a few hundred for a 6' x 9' 2-color, single border using 64oz Mohawk Custom Weave carpet to several thousand with multiple colors, addition of borders, increased complexity of inlaid pieces, or changes in material construction.

How much will my rug cost?

Speak with our designer, and based on your budget, he can make suggestions in coming up with a design or modifying your design to get the highest quality carpet within YOUR price guidelines, not ours.

How do your prices compare to retail mats available?

Our prices are very competitive with retail inlaid mats of a custom size.

How do I order from your company?

We are equipped, prepared, and willing to deal directly with:
   - you, as an individual,
   - your designer, or
   - your carpet store.

We can be contacted by fax, phone, or email.

How do I place an order?

If you have a design in mind, fax or email it with your desired options. A computerized design, or an artistic rendering, will be prepared with all costs involved as well as the required amount of carpet. If you are not local to our studio you can select carpet from your local carpet retailer for shipment to us. We can then ship your finished work of art directly to you.

Who do I contact for orders?

Please feel free to contact us through any communication means available to you - phone, fax, or email. You can ask for Steve, Katie, or Bruce.

What is the status of my order?

You may contact us at any time to inquire about the progress of your rug. We create your custom pieces in the order received, with the greatest care and respect.

Company

Who should I contact with my concern?

Business concerns can be directed to our owner, Katie. Order and bid concerns can be directed to Steve, the technician. Questions about patterns can be directed to Bruce, the designer.

How do I become a vendor/wholesale client?

Coastal Designer Rugs LLC is always looking for avenues to display our products. If you would like to increase your business' image by offering our products to your customers, please contact our owner, Katie. She will discuss these business matters with you. Typically any carpet retailer or design service is eligible; however, any inquiries will be considered.

Do you have a store that I can visit?

Not in the conventional sense. We have a working studio. That is to say, creation of your pieces takes place in a decorated workspace. Appointments can be made to visit the studio.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You may contact anyone in our studio for an appointment, Katie, Bruce, or Steve.

Construction/Finishing

How durable are your rugs?

Our rugs are as durable as the carpet used in their construction. Our thermoplastic bonding technique makes the seams more durable than the original carpet backing. See Care Section.

How durable are your mats?

The products we use are designed for residential and commercial applications. There should be no concern about durability under normal residential use. See Care Section.

How is the stain-resistance of the carpet affected?

The stain resistance properties of the parent carpet material are not affected by your rug's construction process.

What finishing options do I have?

Carpet treatments for the front of the carpet are discussed on our Services/Gallery page. Standard finishing techniques for your rug include gray felt backing with colored polyester binding to complement and finish the edge, applied with a durable zigzag stitch. The binding is used to finish the loose edges of the raw materials, and can become part of the design to give your rug an extra highlight, or, as is the standard option, color matched to blend into your rug's colors.

Various other materials can be used for both the backing and the edge treatment. These options are addressed during the ordering process, as they are typically auxiliary to the main focus of the rug's design.

Can I combine carpet treatments?

Absolutely, any combination is possible. Treatments on the front of your rug can be combined, as well as material choices and backing/edging components.

Shipping

Is shipping included in the price?

Our studio is located in New London, CT USA. As such, your finished rug is FOB our studio (free of shipping charges if picked up from our studio). Local shipments may or may not be subject to a delivery charge. This concern will be addressed conclusively at the time of order/bid.

How will you deliver my rug?

Local deliveries, the greater New London area, will be made using the company delivery vehicle. Deliveries at a greater distant than the greater New London area will be shipped using UPS. If your rug cannot be shipped with UPS, typically rugs over 9' long, a commercial freight company will be used. The manner of shipping will be itemized on your bid/order.

Care

Custom Area Rug Care

Any cleaning concerns that would normally be observed when cleaning typical broadloom carpet should be heeded. Additional concerns would be the use of steam (212°F or above). Steam cleaning should NOT be used, as this tends to degrade the underlying structure of your custom area rug. Your rug-cleaning professional can advise you on proper and possible alternative cleaning methods not using steam.

Your new custom rug should always be rolled to the inside, roll the topside on the inside of the roll.

Custom Area Rug Installation

Your custom rug is designed as a self-contained unit. It can be placed anywhere in your home. However, the same environmental factors that affect broadloom carpets affect your custom area rug. The carpet may fade from the sun as a result of the material properties (This is a potential problem with all types of carpets. Some carpet fiber materials are more resistant than others). Other concerns are chemicals and water. Please follow the recommendations of the carpet line used in your area rug.

Extreme cold or warm climates/areas of your home require special attention. Your area rug should NOT be rolled while very hot or very cold.

Custom Mat Care

Your new mat should be displayed in a sheltered location, not exposed to direct weather. Your new mat can be used outdoors but should have some sort of roof or awning covering. Direct exposure to precipitation is not recommended.

Your new mat should also not be used in locations prone to standing water. The mat should be relocated when anticipating or noticing the mat in standing water. Incidental water from wiping feet, snow, ice, etc. is acceptable and is the intended use of the mat.

Your new mat is able to be used either indoors or out. The backing allows usage in both locations. When migrating mat inside, rinsing off the backing is suggested to remove grit trapped in the backing that could mar the destined indoor surface.

Indoor care and outdoor care alike should both involve vacuuming to remove dirt. The mat should be completely dry before vacuuming to remove dirt as well as maintain cleanliness of cleaning equipment. Wet/Dry vacuums could be used on semi-wet mats to clean. Spot clean when necessary with mild detergents.

Your new mat should NOT be steam cleaned (212°F or above), as degradation of the mat's construction can occur.
