Custom Inlaid Rugs are our signature product created by piecing together carpet sections of different colors to create any type of pattern, design, or picture. This process could be likened to that of stained glass or assembly of a puzzle - several small pieces glued together to form a larger unit. The boundary between each color has the option of being carved or not to achieve the most appropriate effect. The carving takes on several forms. Most rugs incorporate a combination of each of these processes to achieve the maximum effect.
 Beveling |
Beveling - Basically, the edge of each piece is chamfered to slightly highlight these boundaries. If one were to take a profile of the bevel, it would resemble the letter "V". This is typically used on patterned designs, such as a border rug, where a grand intricate picture is not the desired effect.
Compare the above Rose with that to the right.
 Embossing |
Embossing is an extension of beveling. It typically involves a more obtusely angled carve on one edge of the bevel. The profile of this carve would more resemble the letter "L" as opposed to the beveling's "V" profile. This is used to make an area "pop out" or appear higher than the surrounding carpet pile.

 Sculpting |
Sculpting - This process is similar to the relief carvings of ancient civilizations. This process gives the carpet the effect of significant depth. The process makes a pattern appear to come to life. Real-life patterns such as florals or animals appear to have depth. This process can be used subtly on most patterns to achieve extra dimension.
 Level-Pile Carve |
Level-Pile Carve - This process involves butting two pieces of carpet together without carving any beveling detail at the joints. Care is taken to minimize the seam; the same way a carpet installer manicures a seam to lessen its impact. This technique is also used in combination with carving to produce a stunning effect. Carpet colors can be joined and other carve lines added, not following the seams. This can give the effect of shading on a single object where several different colors can be used but line carving between each color may be inappropriate.
 Bas Relief |
Bas Relief - This technique involves lowering the height of the 'background' carpet pile as compared to 'subject' areas. This physically raises certain parts of a design to make them stand out even more than the embossing technique. The subject is then sculpted as necessary.
 Carve Only |
Carve Only - Each of the above techniques can be applied to a solid color piece of carpet to create a design without inlaying other pieces of carpet.
 Logo/Walk Off Matting |
Logo/Walk Off Matting - This matting is designed as part of a dirt defense system. For home or office, these mats offer a scraping surface to help remove dirt from shoes before entering home or business. The material used ranges from stiff carpet-like material to a tough loop pile product. Each can be used indoors or out to protect your building. The mats also offer the added benefit of complementing your home or office. Things like your corporate logo or family name can be inlaid into these mats.
The edges of these mats are finished with fine vinyl reducing strips. This provides a smooth and durable transition to any existing flooring surface. The mats come with non-skid backings to prevent movement while in place.
 Yacht / Motor Coach / Auto |
Yacht/Motor Coach/Auto Applications - We are now able to provide custom flooring solutions for your boat, motor coach, or automobile. These include inexpensive, removable, cut-to-fit (tailored), flooring protection, using the same tough materials highlighted in the Logo/Walk Off Matting section (above). These provide a durable wear surface for high traffic and delicate areas. These mats may be customized the same way as the logo mats. CDR also specializes in creating the same lush flooring products traditionally used in residential applications tailored to fit your particular yacht, motor coach, or automobile. This creates a stunning effect, which highlights your style, taste and truly does justice to your investment.
